Hey, long time no-see. I'm unsure as to whether or not I have asked you this already, but have you ever run into any issues with Linux Mint PPC or Ubuntu PPC using up to 100% CPU for no apparent reason? I asked Luigi Burdo some months ago, and he told me some vague commands to type within the yaboot loader.
I have a 2004 Power Mac G 5, with 2 2GHz processors (not dual core, 2 separate processors), 4 GB RAM - expandable to 32GB RAM. Otherwise, I would like to receive some advice on what Linux distribution would be best for this application.
Though I have recently tried MorphOS (MorphOS actually worked fine on my iBook G4, in spite of the fact that the OS thought that my iBook G4 was running hot when it wasn't, therefore deciding to blast the fans; a simple adjustment of the fan/temperature prefs fixed this, but I sort of had to set the min. Temperature–at which the fans kick in–unrealistically high.), the 111-Euro price tag has turned me off from it.
I still have Mint PPC (or Ubuntu – I forget which) on my iMac G4, but that issues still arises. I'm looking for a fix, and hopefully I will then be able to successfully install either Ubuntu PPC or Linux Mint PPC on some older Macs.
It's too bad, though, that, even if I DO get the CPU usage issue out of the way, the WiFi won't work out of the box. So far, with the free trial of MorphOS, the WiFi has worked out-of-the-box but it's a different story with Linux.
